The Official Birthday Trip

Well... She's officially two! Last year, we celebrated her first birthday with a visit from Grandpa Eric, Tatyana and Andy. We went to a Zoo, she got Fisher Price Barnyard toys and her cake was a Sun.

This year, we just happened to be helping out the VA grandparents on her birthday and we just so happened to have a barnyard theme again. I am from the heartland ~ but I'm not trying to pull any influence here!

During the trip, certain fears needed to be overcome.

Here's our Top-Ten:

1. A seven hour road trip with these guys:

Both traveling there and back, we hit no traffic and the kids were fabulous! If the baby was a little older, things might have been a little more interesting! : ) No reason to fear this time around.

2. Asking In-laws to wear farm animal party hats. Would that go over very well??

Don't they look great!

Leslie's famous Llama-dog. Grandpa gets to keep it!

No problem. The only one uninterested in the hats was the party girl herself. We were all good sports.

3. The house Cam grew up in is a beautiful log cabin. The woods surrounding it, the deck, the woodstove, the river only a short hike away ~ It's paradise really. Let the kids run free, right?
This "paradise" as grandpa describes it also includes this list of joys: poison ivy, 5 foot-long black snakes (3 found at the house during our stay), a baby rattle snake and 3 different kinds of ticks. I was witness to all these lovely creatures. Who knows what I didn't see. Black widows? Well, Grandpa has survived this long, so it must be okay. Let's go ahead and toughen up the kids a bit, eh?!

4. Watching Aunt Leslie pick a dozen ticks off her dogs with her bare hands. Watching grandma pick ticks off Ally with her bare hands. Watching Cam pick ticks off Finn with his bare hands.
Am I going to have to do that? *Trembling-in-my-boots!!!*

I couldn't do the bare hands thing, but I did get 4 ticks off the kids this morning with my finest tweezers. Fear #4 overcome.

5. The job to be done besides the birthday party was to help Grandpa re-roof the house. Is my husband or father-in-law going to fall off the roof??? Is Finn going to fall off the roof when no one's looking?!!!

Everyone was safe although, the job is not completely finished yet!

6. What are the repercussions of beating your husband in a game called Cornhole?

Photobucket

Apparently, not much ~ here we are right after the match. I want this game!!!

7. Letting Ally loose in Aunt Shannon's house with a cookie. Oops!

8. Finn's first hunting experience. The full story will appear on a later post, but needless to say, Finn saw the horrific death of Mr. Squirrel. "Daddy, what's all that red stuff?" We are planning to submit the finished story to Reader's Digest.

9. Finn and Ally overcame the embarrassment of not having their swimsuits and played at the water park anyway. Finn had to wear a pull-up out to lunch. It was cute!

By the way, Ally got 2 cute swimsuits for her birthday and Finn also has 2 pairs of swim shorts. We just didn't know this park had this water area! Thanks for the gifts everyone!

10. Giving a 2-year-old, who is fearless when it comes to fire, trick candles on her birthday cake.
In the video she is shouting, "Fire! Hot! Fire!!" when she see the candles.
